Gao Wei-ze fulfilled his father's wish by resigning as a doctor to return home and take over the nearly hundred-year-old Gao Xiangzhen Bakery. Known for traditional pastries like winter melon meat cakes, the bakery specializes in freshly made green bean paste every day. To compete with declining marriage rates and Western-style wedding pastries, Gao innovated by reducing sugar and oil in half, introducing small Han biscuits and the best-selling egg yolk pastry for the Mid-Autumn Festival, successfully reviving the family bakery. Gao Xiangzhen Bakery, located in Yunlin, is a popular choice for locals when it comes to weddings and gifts, with a reputation for its quality large pastries.
