In Miaoli County, Taiwan, a female leopard cat, an endangered first-class protected animal, was found on an industrial road in Yuanli Town with severe head injuries and no signs of life after being struck by a vehicle. Local authorities dispatched wildlife conservation volunteers to handle the situation and sent the leopard cat's body for further examination. This is the 10th leopard cat roadkill incident in Miaoli in 2024. The county government plans to convene experts to discuss road improvements to prevent similar tragedies. Experts believe the roadkill was a result of the leopard cat being hit while foraging due to failure to avoid vehicles. Miaoli County will gather experts, police, and relevant local units to conduct on-site inspections and devise traffic improvement plans to protect these precious wild animals from the threat of roadkill.
