Taiwanese Father Forgives Assailant in MRT Attack, Wishes Him a Better Future without Seeking Compensation

Reported 9 months ago

In Taichung, Taiwan, a man named Hong attacked and wounded a 17-year-old boy named Lu and another man named Xu with knives inside a subway carriage. The Taichung District Prosecutor's Office concluded that Hong was mentally sound and premeditated the attack, charging him with attempted murder. Both Xu and Lu's fathers respect the judicial decision and do not plan to seek compensation from Hong. Lu's father forgives Hong and wishes him a better future, stating that any potential compensation money will be donated to charity as a form of redemption for Hong. Xu expressed confusion over Hong's motives for the attack and plans to pursue civil compensation. Lu's father organized a blood donation event on July 26 as a way to give back to the community, as his son received blood donations from the public during his emergency treatment. The event offers free umbrellas, vouchers, and a chance to win vouchers for a renowned beach villa in Kenting worth $12,800.
