On July 8, 2024, early in the morning, Lin Shijie, the chairman of the Tainan Fishermen's Association, was ambushed by a gunman outside his residence and fatally shot at close range. An autopsy on his body revealed gunshot wounds in the neck, chest, shoulders, and arms, with the neck and chest shots determined to be fatal. Authorities have formed a special task force to investigate the case, with forensic evidence indicating at least 11 gunshots at the scene and 6 fatal wounds on Lin Shijie's head, chest, and face. Investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the assassination.
