Taiwanese Fishing Boat Captains Detained in Japanese Waters, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues Statement Urging Prompt Release

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested Japan to promptly release the fishing boat crew. A fishing boat from Keelung, the Feng Yung 266, was intercepted in Japanese waters while fishing, and the captain, chief engineer, and two Taiwanese crew members were taken for investigation. Only six Indonesian crew members remained on board. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern to the Japanese Fisheries Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requesting the speedy release of the crew. The Ministry issued a three-point statement clarifying the situation and asserting Taiwan's position on fishing activities in disputed waters.
