A Taiwanese fishing boat, the 'Dajinman 88', was intercepted by two Chinese coast guard ships while catching small pipes in the sea off Jinmen on the evening of July 2. The Chinese authorities boarded the boat, controlled communications on board, and brought the vessel to China, leading to a standoff between the Taiwanese Coast Guard and Chinese authorities. The individuals onboard the boat have since been identified as a mix of Taiwanese and Indonesian nationals. The incident occurred as tensions continue to rise in the region due to frequent incursions by Chinese coast guard ships into Taiwanese waters.
