The Taiwanese fishing vessel 'Da Jin Man 88' was forcibly detained by two Mainland Chinese patrol boats while operating in waters near Kinmen that had crossed into Mainland Chinese territory. Despite the Taiwanese Coast Guard's immediate rescue efforts, the fishing boat was taken to Mainland Chinese waters. Three more Mainland Chinese patrol boats joined the standoff, lasting 50 minutes, with the Coast Guard unable to secure the boat's release. The incident occurred during the Mainland Chinese off-season fishing period, complicating the situation. Subsequent coordination between Taiwanese and Mainland Chinese authorities is expected to take place through established channels, emphasizing the importance of avoiding political manipulation and harm to cross-strait relations, with calls for the prompt release of the Taiwanese vessel and crew.
