At a press conference held by Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration on July 3, 2024, Deputy Director Xie Qingqin explained the progress of the case involving a Taiwanese fishing boat, 'Da Jin Man 88,' being detained by Chinese coast guards in waters outside China's Jinjiang Deep Shanghai. This incident raised high alert as it occurred in alleged Chinese waters beyond Taiwan's restricted area, with 17 previous cases of Taiwanese fishing boats being detained by China. The Coast Guard Administration emphasized the growing enforcement actions by China in the region, including harassment of Japanese fishing boats near the Diaoyu Islands, leading to increased patrols by Taiwan's coast guards. Additionally, efforts are being made to clarify the reason behind the seizure and avoid similar incidents in the future.
