On July 5, 2024, at 2:41 am, the Taiwanese fishing vessel 'Fuyang 266' was inspected and restricted by a Japanese official vessel northeast of Pengjia Islet. The Council of Agriculture's Fisheries Agency is liaising with the Japanese side for resolution; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also responded, expressing immediate concern through diplomatic channels to Japan and requesting the swift release of the crew. The Ministry stated that 'Fuyang 266' was suspected of operating near Amami Oshima, Japan, violating local fishing regulations, and thus was restricted by a Japanese Fisheries Agency official vessel.
