On July 5, 2024, a Taiwanese fishing vessel, the 'Fuyang No. 266' from Keelung, was detained by Japanese authorities near the waters of Amami Oshima for suspected violation of local fishing regulations. Two Taiwanese and six Indonesian crew members were on board, with the captain and engineer cooperating with the inspection while the others remained on the vessel. The case is being actively handled by the Fisheries Agency in coordination with Japanese authorities, following established procedures for incidents occurring outside protected fishing zones.
