Xu Haohong, a Taiwanese Go player who won the men's Go gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023 and is known as 'Xu Xian,' defeated Chinese player Li Qincheng to become the first local Taiwanese player to reach the top 4 in the 'Go World Cup,' seen as the 'Go Olympics.' Previously, Lin Haifeng and Wang Mingwan, both from Taiwan, had reached the top 4, but they were based in Japan at the time. Xu Haohong is now set to compete in the semi-finals on July 6 in Ningbo, China. This achievement comes after 17 years since a local Taiwanese player last entered the top 4 of a world event.
