Taiwanese Guesthouse in Taitung Caught Secretly Filming with Pinhole Cameras, Owner Apologizes and Goes into Hiding as County Government's Inspection Turned Away

Reported 8 months ago

A guesthouse in Taitung City, which was previously awarded for its hospitality, was exposed by a female guest for installing pinhole cameras disguised as night lights in the bathroom. The responsible person, Chen, was arrested and had his devices confiscated to determine if there were other victims. The county government's attempts to inspect the guesthouse were unsuccessful as they found the premises locked and the owner unreachable. After the incident was made public, Chen confessed on Facebook, apologized to the victims, ceased business operations, and promised not to engage in the lodging business again. The booking site has stopped accepting reservations, and if the inspection confirms the illegal filming, the owner may face fines ranging from 30,000 to 500,000 NTD or even revocation of their business license.
