As environmental awareness rises and reducing the use of disposable plastic products becomes a consensus, a study by the National Health Research Institute and Taipei Medical University Department of Food Safety found that Taiwanese people are generally highly exposed to plasticizers, with concentrations in their bodies being two to seven times higher than in many advanced countries. Prolonged exposure can affect the normal operation of hormones such as estrogen, thyroid hormones, and insulin. Taking actions like reducing plastic bag usage and promoting recycling programs, such as the one started by a high school student alliance in Taipei, are crucial steps in combating the plastic pollution issue.
