Taiwanese Legislator Accuses Female Prosecutor of Sheltering Fraud Ring; Taoyuan Prosecutors: Investigating Individual Criminal Liabilities

Reported 8 months ago

Legislator Huang Kuo-chang raised concerns about the Ministry of Justice and Taoyuan Prosecutors failing to effectively investigate Taoyuan prosecutor Wu Ya-chih's involvement in lawyer Cheng Hung-wei's role as an advisor in a fraud group's case. The Ministry of Justice has since directed the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office to conduct a thorough investigation, emphasizing no leniency if any prosecutors are found engaging in illegal activities. The Taoyuan Prosecutors have separated the case for examination to determine the validity of Huang's accusations and possible criminal liabilities. Huang disclosed details where the lawyer acted as an advisor for a fraud group, with Wu allegedly encouraging her boyfriend's participation in the fraudulent activities and neglecting to mention his felonies during court appearances, leading to Taoyuan Prosecutors only issuing evaluations without pursuing criminal responsibilities. Huang also accused the Ministry of Justice of collaborating in the sheltering and demanded answers from Minister Tseng Ming-chung, prompting discussions on the responsibilities of the Ministry regarding the extent to which Taoyuan Prosecutors have sheltered illegal activities. Taoyuan Prosecutors clarified that the communication between the female prosecutor and the lawyer was of a personal nature and not part of official duties, urging the Ministry of Justice not to remain indifferent while questioning if they should hold the Taoyuan Prosecutors responsible for sheltering and aiding such activities.
