Taiwanese Legislature Initiating Constitutional Interpretation Process on Bill Expansion - Legislator Wu Szu-yao: No Legislator Should Override the Constitution

Reported about 1 year ago

Legislator Wu Szu-yao recently posted on social media that the Constitutional Court has accepted the Democratic Progressive Party's petition seeking a constitutional interpretation, reminding both the opposition Kuomintang and People First Party that 'no legislator should be above the constitution'. This comes after the passage of the 'Parliament Reform Bill' with the joint effort of the Kuomintang and People First Party, prompting the Democratic Progressive Party to file for a constitutional interpretation to temporarily freeze the implementation of the new law. Legislator Wu emphasized the importance of upholding the constitution and stated that their party has diligently prepared for the legal challenge.
