On July 5, 2024, a citizen in Taichung reported to councilor Huang Shou-da that they found what looked like cockroach bodies at the bottom of a pineapple liqueur bottle purchased from Costco. The man vomited, sought medical attention, and was diagnosed with gastroenteritis symptoms. Huang demanded the government to remove the product from shelves promptly to protect consumers' rights. Costco stated they could not confirm the actual condition of the product and advised members with doubts to contact customer service. The batch of liqueur was withdrawn from shelves, and samples were sent for inspection, with potential penalties for the importer under the Tobacco and Alcohol Administration Act.
