A 20-year-old man surnamed Hong from Pingtung deliberately carried out random knife attacks on a Taichung metro train, injuring a 17-year-old and another man. The incident shocked society, and after a month-long investigation, the Taichung Prosecutor's Office concluded that Hong, who had premeditated the attacks, was of sound mind. Hong planned the attacks in order to gain nationwide attention and highlight issues related to capital punishment, and the prosecution has charged him with attempted murder and other offenses.
