A man surnamed Xie, known as 'Brother Ah,' was sentenced to life imprisonment for smuggling approximately $4 billion worth of methamphetamine to Nagoya, Japan, in 2018. Xie and 6 accomplices were involved in the drug smuggling operation, which was eventually busted by a Taiwan-Japan joint effort. Xie was found guilty of transporting second-class drugs, with the judge citing that he 'damaged Taiwan's image.' Despite denying involvement, evidence from accomplices and arrests in Japan implicated Xie as the mastermind, leading to the severe sentence and a lifetime ban from privileges.
