In Taiwan, a man surnamed Xie was convicted as the mastermind of a drug smuggling case where nearly 340 kilograms of methamphetamine, valued at around NT$4 billion, were hidden inside aluminum rims and smuggled to Nagoya, Japan in 2018. The Taipei District Court sentenced Xie to life imprisonment for transporting the second-class drug, citing damage to the country's image. The court's ruling detailed how the drug smuggling group was organized, carried out, and eventually intercepted by joint Taiwan-Japan efforts.
