On July 6, former Taoyuan mayor and Mainland Affairs Council chairman Cheng Wen-tsang was detained and forbidden from meeting by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office in the early morning for suspected bribery offenses. KMT legislator Niu Hsu-ting mentioned Cheng's rumored involvement in various Taoyuan land development cases in the past, although lacking direct evidence. Cheng has denied any wrongdoing, expressing cooperation with the judicial investigation to clarify the truth.
