Taiwanese Mayor's Bail Raised to NT$12 Million as Prosecution Files Appeal with Court at 19:32

Reported about 1 year ago

Former Taoyuan Mayor, Cheng Wen-tsang, involved in a corruption case regarding the Hwarya Tech land development, was summoned for allegedly accepting a bribe of NT$5 million. Initially granted bail at NT$5 million, which the prosecution appealed, the High Court then pushed for NT$12 million bail, to which the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office filed an appeal. The appeal was swiftly delivered to the High Court via official vehicle late at night, completing the submission of the appeal. The prosecution argued that there was a fear of evidence tampering and witness manipulation, leading to suspicions of Cheng's continued influence despite resigning as mayor over a year and a half ago.
