Taiwanese mayor Zheng Wencan, who is also the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was detained by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office on July 5, 2024, under the Anti-Corruption Act. Prosecutors believe Zheng Wencan may have committed bribery offenses in performance of official duties, and hence, the seriousness of the suspected crimes warranted his arrest. The prosecutors have requested detention and prohibited visitation rights. Zheng Wencan's detention is in relation to corruption charges under the Anti-Corruption Act.
