On July 2, 2024, Taichung legislators, including Yang Chiung-ying, Liao Wei-hsiang, and Huang Chien-hao, met with Ministry of Transportation deputy minister Wu Sheng-yuan before the department's review meeting. The Ministry of Transportation approved the feasibility study for the Taichung Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transit System - Airport MRT (Orange Line), marking a significant progress for the city's metro system. However, issues such as transfers at Taichung Station and the Blue Line's track crossing need further clarification and detailed planning from the city. The estimated 29.23-kilometer Orange Line with 26 stations has a total budget of 139.6 billion New Taiwan Dollars, with a projected 12 years construction period. Despite facing challenges near the airport runway, various restrictions have been addressed through inter-ministerial coordination. Legislator Yang emphasized the public's long-awaited anticipation for the project and hopes for collaborative efforts between the central and local governments to push its development forward.
