In Tainan, Taiwan, local fishing association chairman Lin Shijie was shot and killed in front of his home. Lin, who had a history of involvement in arms smuggling and corruption, had been appointed as the general manager of an agricultural company by Mayor Huang Weizhe in 2018. Lin later won the election for chairman of the local fishing association, but was also involved in a bribery case and had been detained in early 2023. The exact motive behind the assassination is still under investigation.
