Reported about 1 year ago
On June 20, 2024, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council and spokesperson Liang Wen-jie mentioned that in the past year, there have been at least 8 cases of Taiwanese individuals with retired military and police backgrounds being unfairly detained and investigated in China. Liang emphasized the need for caution when traveling to China, especially for individuals with similar backgrounds. These incidents have increased with the rise in cross-strait exchanges since the easing of pandemic restrictions, with concerns raised about potential espionage activities targeting retired military personnel, urging vigilance for those with similar identities traveling to China.
