During a legislative session in Taiwan, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party, Fan Yun, voiced concerns about the lack of regulation for summer camps where an incident of child sexual assault by a teacher occurred. With an estimated 120,000 children participating in summer camps this year, the Ministry of Education is preliminarily evaluating a work permit system to address the issue. Fan Yun suggested implementing a child work permit system similar to Australia to improve child protection and prevent unsuitable individuals from working with children. Education Minister Zheng Yingyao responded that the ministry is planning and evaluating the work permit system internally to enhance child protection measures.
