Taiwanese Patrol Boat Enters Chinese Waters for the First Time; Turns Back Due to Fear of Ambush

Reported 12 months ago

A Taiwanese fishing boat, 'Da Jin Man 88,' was forcefully taken back to mainland China by Chinese coast guard ships while fishing near Kinmen on July 3, 2024. The Taiwanese Coast Guard Administration revealed that this incident marked the first time since its establishment in 2000 that a patrol boat entered Chinese waters, even going into the 'internal waters' about 6 nautical miles away, but retreated due to the fear of being surrounded by seven Chinese coast guard ships using 'pocket tactics.' The administration also disclosed statistics on detaining mainland Chinese fishing boats for illegal fishing, with 28 boats detained last year and five boats from January to April of this year.
