Recent reports revealed incidents of Taiwanese nationals being inspected by Hong Kong police on the streets and subways, requiring the display of identification and bag searches. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council reminded Taiwanese to be aware of local regulations, carry identification, and contact the Hong Kong and Macau offices in case of emergencies. They also recommended pre-registering through the 'Registration System for Travelers to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau' for added security. The council highlighted the differences in regulations for items allowed during entry and exit in Hong Kong and Macau and advised against carrying prohibited items like pepper spray, stun guns, and expandable batons. As security risks increase with the implementation of Hong Kong's 'National Security Law,' the council continues to monitor law enforcement situations, provide case information on their website, and advise caution. They also emphasized the importance of staying informed about the situation in Hong Kong and Macau, carrying passports, visas, and avoiding contravening local regulations, with emergency contact numbers available for assistance. It was recommended that individuals pre-register their personal information and contact details through the system for prompt government assistance if needed.
