Taiwanese Police Accused of Making Things Difficult for Protesters at the Legislative Yuan, Zhongzheng First Police Precinct Urgently Clarifies

FTNN News Network reported on June 18, 2024, at 12:38 AM that after the Executive Yuan passed the third reading of the 'Legislative Yuan Exercise of Powers Act' and some amendments to the 'Republic of China Penal Code,' a reconsideration motion was introduced, set for a vote on the 21st at the Legislative Yuan. Economic Democracy Union called on people to return to gather outside the Legislative Yuan from the 19th to express dissatisfaction with the expansion of parliamentary powers. However, organizer Lai Zhongqiang criticized Taipei City Police Department for hindering the event and questioned whether the unreasonable demands were at the directive of Mayor Chiang Wan-an. The police demanded unreasonable setups at the protest site, causing added costs and fatigue to organizers and workers. The Zhongzheng First Police Precinct clarified the reasons behind certain restrictions for the event to ensure public safety and minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
