Taiwanese National Police Chief Liao Zong-shan was involved in the shooting of the Fishermen's Association Chairman Lin Shijie a week before his retirement. The gunman targeted Lin at his home, shooting him three times and causing his death. The timing of the shooting, just before Liao's retirement, is seen as a provocative act. The police have identified the suspect's vehicle and are currently in pursuit. Lin Shijie had a criminal record for smuggling weapons but later became successful in business and politics, with his daughter successfully elected as a city councilor, stirring up controversy and leading to a focused investigation by the police.
