In a surprising accident, a police officer in Taitung, Taiwan, was riding a motorcycle when he apparently collided with an endemic Taiwan Pheasant, causing him and his vehicle to plunge into an industrial road below, where he momentarily stopped breathing and his heart stopped. Witnesses described the harrowing moment as the officer lost control after hitting the bird and crashed into a tree before falling onto the road below. The officer, identified as a 29-year-old police officer from the Lu Ye Police Station of the Guanshan Police Substation in Taitung County, was on vacation when the accident occurred. Fortunately, he showed signs of recovery after emergency treatment at the hospital and awaits transfer to the intensive care unit. The Taiwan Pheasant involved in the accident, a second-class protected species, was found dead near where the officer fell. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
