Tainan District Fishermen's Association director Lin Shijie was shot and killed early morning on July 8, 2024. The motive behind the attack is still unclear. Lin Shijie's daughter, Lin Yiting, is a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Tainan City Councilor and is known for her political connections. Lin Shijie, aged 53, had a past criminal record involving firearms. His daughter, Lin Yiting, successfully ran for office in 2022 while he was elected as the director of the Tainan District Fishermen's Association. The incident has raised concerns over political involvement and safety in Tainan's political landscape.
