Taiwanese Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councilor Lin Yi-ting's father, Lin Shi-jie, the chairman of a Tainan district fishery association, was fatally shot by an unknown assassin wearing a black hat near his home in the early hours of July 8. Surveillance footage revealed that the assailant had been lying in wait under a covered walkway about 50 meters from Lin's residence, attacked upon seeing Lin, and then fled the scene. Authorities suspect the assailant's getaway vehicle may have had fake license plates. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, which left Lin dead and triggered shockwaves in the local political scene.
