Taiwanese Politician Cheng Wen-tsan Suspected of Corruption and Bribery, Under Restriction of Movement and Communication by Taoyuan District Prosecutors

Cheng Wen-tsan, former Mayor of Taoyuan City and current Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, is suspected of violating anti-corruption laws and accepting bribes. Taoyuan local prosecutors have sought his detention and a communication ban. Cheng was granted bail of NT$5 million, with restrictions on residence and travel. Following his bail, Cheng, accompanied by his lawyer, expressed his innocence and resigned from his position at the foundation. The case is ongoing with the high court overturning the bail decision and sending it back for further review by the district court.
