Cheng Wen-tsang, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation and former mayor of Taoyuan, was arrested and detained by the Taoyuan District Court on suspicion of corruption. After a two-hour hearing, the court granted Cheng bail of 5 million NT dollars but restricted his movements and interactions. The case is related to allegations of involvement in a land development scandal and suspicious land deals. Cheng denies the accusations, and investigations are ongoing.
