Taiwanese politician Cheng Wen-tsang, former mayor of Taoyuan and current chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, celebrated his 57th birthday on July 6, only to be detained for corruption allegations. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) responded, expressing hope for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth as the case develops. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office revealed that Cheng was arrested on charges related to bribery, and the case is ongoing.
