Days before the 2024 elections, many people in Yunlin received a text message claiming that a missile base would be established in Huwei and an explosion would leave no survivors within a ten-kilometer radius. The message was written in simplified Chinese characters and was later found to be from a company based in Shanghai, China. After investigation, no charges were filed, leading the politician Su Chih-fen to criticize foreign interference in Taiwan's elections. The incident sparked tensions between Su and her political rival Zhang's family.
