On July 6, 2024, former Taoyuan Mayor and current Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, was implicated in a corruption scandal related to the Huaya Technology Park in Linkou. Wang Haoyu, a former Taoyuan City Councilor, questioned the need for Cheng to accept illegal funds given his access to plenty of legitimate political donations, expressing surprise at the situation. Wang emphasized their relationship was purely professional and criticized how rumors had linked them in the past. He also urged for a swift resolution to the case, highlighting the lack of need for illicit funds considering Cheng's political standing. Wang further mentioned the stance of the ruling party, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), in contrast to other political parties, advocating for a fair and just handling of the situation without shielding anyone.
