After Taiwanese private shrine 'Tainan Yuzhi Wuxuantan' released a poster of a marriage between Deity Guan Gong and Goddess Mazu as 'Celestial Couple Guan and Mother in Heaven,' triggering backlash from worshippers, Luerhmen Tainan Temple demanded a public apology on June 11 and threatened legal action if not received. The controversy escalated as it was revealed that the statue of 'Celestial Couple Guan and Mother in Heaven' was not a spirit moved from the temple. When questioned, shrine staff declined interviews, directing inquiries to the official LINE account, where the only response to all questions was 'Thank you for your concern.' The shrine faced criticism for the wedding announcement and later faced backlash, leading to the closure of its social media page.
