At the recent Golden Melody Awards, Taiwanese singer Bana, who won the 'Best Taiwanese Album Award,' mentioned the 'Tiananmen Incident' in her acceptance speech, causing her works to be censored in China. Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council Liang Wen-chieh stated that Bana has freedom of speech and speculated that Chinese singers might voluntarily avoid attending future Golden Melody Awards as a result. Liang emphasized that Taiwan welcomes mainland Chinese artists, but there could be awkward situations due to differences in political views, such as when Taiwanese spectators wave national flags at sporting events.
