Taiwanese Subjected to Body Search by Palau Customs, Foreign Ministry: Procedures to be Enhanced

Reported 12 months ago

A Taiwanese woman named Li, who was asked to strip by Palau customs on July 2, 2024, lodged a protest at the Foreign Ministry on July 1. In May 2024, she felt humiliated when subjected to a full-body search, including private areas, by Palau customs. The Ministry spokesperson stated that the Taiwanese Embassy in Palau has already relayed the incident to the Palauan government, which has responded positively and promised to improve relevant procedures in the future. The Ministry emphasizes its concern for Taiwanese citizens experiencing such incidents abroad and is actively working to address the issue. Additionally, they advise travelers to use the Ministry's 'Travel Safety Guidance' app for international travel information and emergency assistance services.
