On June 21, 2024, a new Tze-chiang Express train, EMU3000, derailed in Hualien, Taiwan, causing injuries to the driver and 8 passengers who were sent to hospitals for treatment. The train is currently stuck in a tunnel, and Taiwan Railways estimates that the track restoration will be challenging, with hopes of reopening by midday the next day. The incident occurred due to soil and rocks covering the track, leading to derailment of multiple train cars between Chongde and Horen. Taiwan Railways has established emergency response teams and is working on clearing the track for resumption of services.
