On June 21, 2024, at 4:50 p.m., Taiwan Railways reported that the EMU3000 type Taroko Express Train No. 229 collided with falling rocks near Chongde and Hen. The incident occurred just 100 meters away from the site of the 2021 Taroko Express derailment. Due to heavy rainfall, the railway tracks were flooded with debris, causing the rockfall warning system to fail. Seven people were injured, and measures for better protection mechanisms are being actively explored. This incident, reminiscent of the previous tragic accident, underscores the need for improved safety protocols in railway operations.
