An observant netizen noticed a trend where friends actively check in on social media when traveling to Japan or Korea but rarely do so when visiting Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, raising questions about the perceived stigma of traveling to China. Reasons suggested for this disparity include inconvenient payment methods and the need to use specific apps in Mainland China, as well as the appeal of Japan and Korea for younger travelers with better shopping environments. Despite some exceptions like Hong Kong, the preference seems to lean towards destinations outside Mainland China for many Taiwanese travelers.
