Former Taiwanese Representative to Brunei and ex-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shen Ya-Ping's husband, Hao Zhi-Hua, was sentenced to 2 years in prison for defrauding a woman with terminal cancer named Li by falsely claiming that 'autologous adipose stem cell therapy' could control her condition. Li paid 2.4 million NTD for the treatment but eventually passed away. The court found Hao guilty of fraud in both the first and second trials, ruling that the clinic was not authorized for such treatments. Despite Hao's denial and appeal, the higher court rejected it, stating that the treatment had no proven benefits in cancer therapy.
