According to media reports, a Taiwanese woman surnamed Li traveling to Palau on June 17th was taken to a room by local customs officials and asked to strip for an intimate body search. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded by advising that if Taiwanese citizens encounter unequal treatment in Palau, they can contact border officials to notify the Taiwan Embassy, which will provide necessary assistance within the local legal framework. While Palau officials stated the search was conducted lawfully and impartially, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and border security, they also expressed willingness to improve procedures to better inform individuals during security screenings. The ministry reminded that entry permits are subject to national sovereignty and security considerations, with countries holding the right to inspect and deny entry to foreign nationals. In light of the incident, the ministry aims to maintain communication with Palau to safeguard the rights of Taiwanese travelers in the country.
