Taiwanese Women Scammed 55 Million in Virtual Currency Scheme

Reported 8 months ago

Two women in New Taipei City's Sanchong District were scammed out of over 55 million Taiwanese dollars in a virtual currency investment fraud. The victims, aged 55 and 43, were tricked into believing they could make profits by investing in gold and virtual currency. After realizing they were being defrauded, they cooperated with the police to lure the scammers into a face-to-face meeting, leading to the arrest of two suspects. The perpetrators used fake identities and promises of stock market returns to deceive the victims, who made multiple cash transfers and face-to-face transactions before discovering the deception.
