On July 5, 2024, at 3:52 AM, a taxi driver, surnamed Pan, for unknown reasons, drove the taxi out of control onto a pedestrian path, injuring two cyclists. The 67-year-old driver drove through Taipei's Da'an District on Xinyi Road Section 3 around 10 PM the day before, veered onto the right lane for unknown reasons, did not brake, and forcefully drove onto the pedestrian path, first hitting two cyclists, then crashing into a tree, and finally hitting a building wall before coming to a stop. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the driver, Pan, unconscious and without vital signs. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
