Following the Taiwan railway accident caused by a landslide, a civil engineer suggests reconsidering the route selection in the long run. However, experts estimate that if the railway routes are to be completely changed, the process from environmental impact assessments, construction, testing, to opening may take over 10 years and cost at least hundreds of billions of dollars. Safety is also an unknown factor, so it is suggested to first focus on tunnel and stream dredging for immediate mitigation.
