Telcos to Reap Billions from Recycling Old Copper Wire

Reported 4 months ago

Telcos like AT&T, BT Group Plc, and Orange SA are looking to capitalize on their old copper wiring by recovering up to 800,000 metric tons of copper, valued over $7 billion, through the transition to fiber-optic cable over the next decade. The increased demand for copper in electric-vehicle batteries and clean-energy infrastructure, coupled with rising prices and mining challenges, makes the recycled copper a valuable resource. Companies like AT&T and Openreach Ltd. are already scaling up their copper recycling efforts to meet the growing demand and market opportunities.
